How to Play Minesweeper
- Click a cell to reveal it. Numbers show how many mines touch that cell.
- Right-click (or long-press on mobile) to flag a suspected mine.
- Use the numbers to deduce which neighbours are safe and which hide mines.
- Clear every safe cell to win. Reveal a mine and it's game over.
- Your first click is always safe.
Tips & Strategy
- A number that already touches that many flags means all its other neighbours are safe.
- The 1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 patterns along walls have fixed, learnable solutions.
- Flag conservatively — wrong flags are the most common cause of fatal misreads.
Minesweeper — Frequently Asked Questions
Can I lose on the first click?
No. The board is generated after your first click so that the first cell is never a mine.
What do the numbers mean in Minesweeper?
Each number counts the mines in the up-to-eight cells surrounding it. A blank cell means zero adjacent mines, and its neighbours open automatically.
How do I flag mines on a phone?
Long-press a cell to place or remove a flag, or toggle flag mode and tap.
