Spiders are common mobs that shift between neutral and hostile states based on light level. They are unique in their ability to scale any vertical surface and fit through 1-block-tall gaps. Spider jockeys — spiders ridden by skeletons — can occasionally spawn as a dangerous combined enemy.

Overworld at light level 0 in a 3×1×3 space on an opaque block; also spawns from monster spawners in dungeons; neutral in daylight (light > 11), hostile in darkness
Behavior
Neutral in daylight when light level exceeds 11; hostile at night or in darkness. Can climb walls and ceilings. Attacks by pouncing at players. Has a small chance to spawn with potion effects (speed, strength, regeneration, or invisibility) on Hard difficulty.
